David Warner hits a maiden double Test century as Australia dominate New Zealand to finish day one of the second Test in Perth on 416-2.

David Warner has hit a maiden double Test century to guide Australia to a record-breaking display against New Zealand on day one of the second Test in Perth.

The hosts, who have a 1-0 lead in the series, have managed to end the day on an impressive 416-2 following an unbeaten knock of 244 from Warner, who reached the figure off 272 balls.

It was a bad start to the day for the Black Caps as they lost the toss, but it was only going to get worse as Joe Burns and Warner opened the batting for the Aussies.

Immediately, the pair totted up the runs and claimed a 101-run partnership before New Zealand got a bit of luck when Matt Henry managed to bowl out Burns for 40.

Despite losing their opener, Australia did not look rattled as Warner led the attack, reaching his 15th Test century to become the first Australian to reach three centuries twice in a row.

Usman Khawaja, who would have been caught out had New Zealand not used up all their reviews on bad calls, also contributed to the prolific score as he hit two sixes and made 11 boundaries to reach 121.

The batsman was eventually taken out by New Zealand when he was caught out by Tom Latham off the bowling of Doug Bracewell.

The day, though, belonged to Warner, who hit two sixes and 22 fours, contributing to the most runs scored by Australia than ever before on the opening day of a Test at the WACA.
