Derbyshire's Mark Footitt is among the 14-man training squad to take part in a four-day fitness camp in Spain ahead of next month's Ashes opener.

Left-arm seamer Mark Footitt has been named in England's 14-man training squad ahead of the upcoming Ashes series against Australia.

England will head to Spain later this month for four days to give the group a chance to familiarise themselves with recently-appointed coach Trevor Bayliss.

Derbyshire's Footitt is the surprise inclusion in the squad, which will be reduced in size early next month, as all eyes turn towards the opening Test at Cardiff's Swalec Stadium on July 8.

Andrew Strauss, director of England cricket, said: "With Trevor Bayliss arriving in the country next Thursday, Trevor, Alastair Cook and I felt it important that both players and management likely to be involved in the early stages of the Ashes have chance to meet him and fully understand his approach prior to meeting up for the start of the Test series.

"With that in mind, we have arranged a preparation camp in Spain. This will involve a combination of physical and fielding sessions and planning meetings in an informal environment in order to provide the best possible lead up to the first Test in Cardiff.

"The squad for the first Test will be announced within a few of days of returning from the camp."

Pre-Ashes training squad in full: Alastair Cook (Essex), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jimmy Anderson (Lancashire), Gary Ballance (Yorkshire), Ian Bell (Warwickshire), Stuart Broad (Nottinghamshire), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Mark Footitt (Derbyshire), Adam Lyth (Yorkshire), Liam Plunkett (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Ben Stokes (Durham), Mark Wood (Durham)
