Andrew Strauss: England must "show fight"

Andrew Srauss wants to see fight from England on day three of the first Ashes Test.

Former England captain Andrew Strauss has demanded that England "fight" to get themselves back into the first Ashes Test against Australia at Brisbane.

England capitulated on day two to lose six wickets for just nine runs, and are currently 224 runs behind the Aussies with the hosts into their second innings.

"It's hard to think of any real positives for England," Strauss told Sky Sports News. "I suppose you could say that Michael Carberry was pretty composed opening the innings and did a good job seeing off that new ball but other than that it was quite bleak.

"There were some injudicious shots, some guys who looked very suspect against the new ball and even at the end of the day when England were bowling, they looked like they had run out of steam. The bowlers lacked any real sort of bite and Australia got through to the close of play without any real alarms.

"So England are going to have to take stock and think about what went wrong but also they are going to have to come back tomorrow and say 'listen, forget about today - it's over, there's nothing we can do about it'. We've got to show fight now."

England currently hold The Ashes, having retained the trophy last summer.
