England bowler Graeme Swann has insisted that "nothing untoward" was carried out during the celebrations of winning The Ashes at The Oval.
The team issued an apology today following reports that a number of England players urinated on the pitch following their 3-0 win over Australia.
"We did go out to the middle of the pitch, all the lads, drinking beers, singing a few songs and enjoying each other's company," Swann wrote in The Telegraph.
"I think the call of nature might have come once or twice but it was nothing untoward. It was midnight, a private celebration in the middle of the pitch and the ground was dark."
England were denied a historic 4-0 series win over the Aussies after the fifth Test ended in a draw due to poor light.
