Bob Willis heaps pressure on spinner Moeen Ali ahead of day two

All-rounder Moeen Ali "will be very important" on day two of The Ashes, according to ex-England bowler Bob Willis.

Former England fast bowler Bob Willis has suggested that the bowling of Moeen Ali is vital to the outcome of the first Ashes Test of the summer.

The hosts started positively on day one and finished on 343-7, with Joe Root scoring 137.

Australia will get their chance to bat on the Cardiff pitch later today, and Willis thinks that Ali will face a lot of pressure.

He told Sky Sports News: "It's going to be a brave Alastair Cook who brings Moeen on early in the piece in the Australia innings. But it could be a very valuable tactic if Moeen is bowling anywhere like at his best, because Warner, Smith and Clarke will be blowing that bugle and charging down the pitch at him.

"They'll try to hit the spinner out of the attack, as it means the seamers have to come back and bowl. They'll then get more tired as the day goes on and then Australia will look to make hay, so Moeen will be very important."

Ali will start the day with the bat, as he is 26 not out overnight.
