Australia have dominated day two of the fifth Ashes Test match against England to move into a commanding position at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Michael Clarke's side blew through England's top order before eventually dismissing the tourists for 155, and a superb bowling display was backed up by an unbeaten 73 from Chris Rogers as Australia ended the day with a lead of 311 runs.

England needed a confident start on day two, but after losing Alastair Cook to the second ball of the morning, wickets fell with alarming regularity to leave Cook's team on 23-5.

A gutsy 47 from Ben Stokes and an aggressive 30 from Stuart Broad helped England reach 155, some 171 runs adrift of Australia's first-innings total.

James Anderson took two wickets as England displayed a bit of fight in the field, but Rogers looked in fine form as he eased to 73 runs from 89 deliveries to take Australia to 140-4 at stumps.
