Australia opener Chris Rogers has reached lunch unbeaten on 67 runs to help his side to 92-2 on day one of the third Test match at Old Trafford.
After winning the toss, the tourists played superbly for the first hour of the session, reaching 70-0 with little alarm.
However, Tim Bresnan struck soon after to remove Shane Watson for 19, before Usman Khawaja was harshly dismissed for one despite not appearing to make contact with the ball.
That brought skipper Michael Clarke to the crease for the final 10 minutes of the morning session, which he negotiated with Rogers to earn Australia the early advantage in the match.
