A batting collapse from England and an unbeaten knock of 92 from Australia skipper Steven Smith has left the third Ashes Test in Perth in the balance.

England began day two in control and Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow kicked on during the opening stages on Friday before Malan was eventually out for 140.

However, despite Bairstow reaching 119, England's final six wickets went for just 35 and although Joe Root's side made 403, Australia had the momentum.

Craig Overton was able to take the wickets of Cameron Bancroft (25) and David Warner (22) to leave Australia on 55-2, but a half-century from Usman Khawaja and another excellent showing from Smith got the hosts back into the game with the score on 203-3 at stumps.

England remain 200 runs ahead heading into day three but with 18 overs remaining until the new ball, Australia and Smith have the opportunity to add vital runs which could make or break England's chances in this game.
