Ashley Giles: 'England at new low after New Zealand thrashing'

Ashley Giles claims that England have hit a new low, following their thumping Cricket World Cup defeat at the hands of New Zealand.

Former one-day coach Ashley Giles has claimed that England's performances at the Cricket World Cup have reached a new low.

Eoin Morgan's men followed up their 111-run defeat at the hands of Australia by being thrashed by New Zealand, as the Kiwis wrapped up an eight-wicket victory with 37 overs to spare in Wellington.

However, Giles has suggested that England could also lose to minnows Scotland on Monday.

He told BBC Sport: "It's probably never been this bad, it was the biggest defeat ever in a World Cup game [for England]. The way they're playing, they're so low on confidence you wouldn't put it past them.

"The Scots gave New Zealand a good run in the end. It's a real potential banana skin.

"I didn't think we'd beat New Zealand and Australia, but the manner and the deficit of the defeats was shocking. Let's just hope they can put it right against Scotland, otherwise we'll never live it down."

Tim Southee ripped through the England batting lineup with figures of 7-33 as Peter Moores's team could only set a target of 124.
