James Anderson: 'England bowlers deserve credit'

James Anderson believes England deserve credit for their display on a "frustrating" day in the first Test against India.

James Anderson has claimed that England deserve credit for how they performed on a "frustrating" opening day in the first Test against India at Trent Bridge.

A flat pitch made it difficult for the hosts to put sustained pressure on India's batsmen, with Murali Vijay scoring an unbeaten century as the tourists reached 259-4, but Anderson was impressed with the work of his fellow bowlers.

"I think you have to give credit to the bowlers on a day like today," the seamer told Sky Sports News. "We've stuck at our jobs brilliantly. Someone like 'Puds' (Liam Plunkett), his job is to bang the pitch and to bang a pitch like that is a thankless task at times. He stuck at it brilliantly.

"It was a frustrating day. We had a couple of nicks that bounced just short.

"There was a full-blooded drive from [Ajinkya] Rahane off Stuart [Broad] that didn't carry to second slip. When that happens it's very frustrating. You don't mind a pitch being flat but you want the nicks to carry."

England are looking for their first Test victory since beating Australia in Durham last August.
