India need 299 to win the ODI series against England

England will have to prevent India from scoring 299 runs in the next innings in order to remain in contention for the ODI series.

England completed the first innings of the third one-day international on 298-4 after they won the toss this morning and decided to bat first in Mohali.

It was a disappointing start for England as captain Alastair Cook was forced to leave the crease claiming just three runs after a successful lbw appeal from Vinnay Kumar. Despite the blow, the visitors managed to settle with Jonathan Trott and Craig Keiswetter reaching 50 in the 12th over.

After Keiswetter's dismissal for 36, Trott and new partner Kevin Pietersen managed to score a few boundaries in order to up their runs, but struggled to maintain singles at the crease.

Despite the lack of flair, England reached 115 and looked to be in control until they suffered a scare when Trott was inches away from being run out. The South African-born player was slow to get back to the stumps, and if MS Dhoni hadn't scuffed his throw, the batsman would have been forced to leave the field.

Pietersen and Ravi Bopara later became victims of India and were forced to bow out which left Trott and Sami Patel to take the reins until the end of the innings.

Patel racked up 70 runs from 43 balls while his partner Trott just missed out on 100 with 98 under his belt. India will have to reach 299 in order to win the ODI series.
