A century from Michael Clarke has helped Australia set England a target of 316 runs to win the second one-day international at Old Trafford.
The visitors lost the toss and were put in to bat first as they made 315-7 off their 50 overs.
Australia's time at the crease started disastrously when Shaun Marsh was dismissed by Steven Finn for a duck in the first over.
That was just a blip for the Aussies as Aaron Finch (45), Shane Watson (38) and George Bailey (82) all pushed their side onwards with impressive knocks.
However, it was Clarke who made the innings his own by hitting 100 runs off 94 balls before eventually going for 105 off the bowling of Boyd Rankin.
Rankin took another wicket soon after when Matthew Wade was out for a duck, while Finn claimed another victim in the form of James Faulkner for 18 in the final over.
