Geoffrey Boycott hits out at 'disrespectful' Alastair Cook

England skipper Alastair Cook is not a great England captain, says Geoffrey Boycott.

Former England batsman Geoffrey Boycott has launched an attack on captain Alastair Cook, after his comments about new ECB chairman Colin Graves.

Cook suggested that Graves was unwise to say that the West Indies were "mediocre", as it inspired them to fight back and earn a draw in their Test series with England this week.

However, Boycott believes that could damage their relationship when Graves takes over as chairman later this month.

He told The Telegraph: "Graves is going to be his new boss on May 15, yet it is unbelievable that Cook talks disrespectfully about him. Alastair is so up his own arse, he thinks he is untouchable as England captain and the only guy who can do the job.

"When he was England one‑day captain, they had a shocking record, a poor losing tour of Sri Lanka and he could not score a run. Yet when the selectors finally had to put him out of his misery, and took the captaincy off him, he was so miffed that he was still saying he was the best man for the job."

He added: "Cook acts as if he is the best captain England have ever had, comparable with FS Jackson, Douglas Jardine, Len Hutton, Ray Illingworth and Michael Vaughan. He is living in cloud-cuckoo land about his captaincy ability."

Cook will lead England against New Zealand later this month.
