Stuart Broad missed a practice session with his England teammates on Wednesday to discuss his nose injury with a specialist.
The bowler has been included in the squad for the fifth Test against India, which begins at The Oval on Friday, but he could be forced to wear a mask on his face for extra protection.
Broad's nose was broken when he was struck by a Varun Aaron delivery at Old Trafford last Saturday, but his injury did not prevent the hosts from going on to clinch a 2-1 lead in the series.
The 28-year-old has taken 16 wickets against India ahead of the final match of the series.
