Alastair Cook has become England's leading run-scorer in Test cricket after breaking Graham Gooch's record.
Needing just 32 to go past Gooch's tally of 8,900 runs in the longest format, Cook reached the milestone by driving to the boundary in the afternoon session on day two of the second Test against New Zealand at Headingley.
The record had belonged to Gooch for 21 years, but he now slips to second in the record books ahead of Alec Stewart and David Gower.
Cook, whose tally of 27 Test centuries is also an England record, has played four fewer Test matches than Gooch since making his debut in 2006.
