Alastair Cook: 'Two coaches present new challenges for England'

Alastair Cook reveals that England coaches Ashley Giles and Andy Flower have very different approaches to their current roles.

England captain Alastair Cook has admitted that having two coaches within the current set-up has presented the team with fresh challenges.

Former Warwickshire head coach Ashley Giles has recently taken charge of the one-day teams, leaving Andy Flower to concentrate on his role with the Test side.

"Having two coaches has thrown up a few challenges. When it was announced, we knew it would be the case," Cook said. "There are not problems as such but we have to be aware of the differences in their characters.

"Andy is very intense and Gilo is more laid-back off the field. But it's good because it gives each squad a different direction.

"What they want on the field is the same — high standards and the excellence needed to perform in international cricket."

England begin day two of the first Test against New Zealand on Wednesday evening after the first day was washed out in Dunedin.
