Alastair Cook: "This is our best chance" to win World Cup

England captain Alastair Cook believes that his side have their "best chance" ever to win the 50-over World Cup in Australia and New Zealand next year.

Alastair Cook feels that next year's World Cup presents England with their "best chance" to win the tournament.

England embark on a seven-match tour of Sri Lanka before the tournament, and Cook feels that will provide excellent preparation for the competition in Australia and New Zealand, which starts in February 2015.

Cook told reporters: "Without a doubt, this is our best chance. This goes back a few years in planning and asking why our World Cups have not gone as well as they should have.

"Since 1992 we have not done ourselves justice in any World Cup. The ECB have planned to make sure we have the guys fresh and ready to go for the World Cup. We have a great opportunity and I for one am excited about playing one-day cricket without having Tests in the forefront.

"A lot of one-day cricket is played on the back of Test series when guys are tired and you can't do as much work on your skills. We have this five weeks when we can't use that excuse – we have to play well."

England were beaten finalists in the competition in 1979, 1987 and 1992.
