The England and Wales Cricket Board will need to offer a salary package worth at least double that paid to former coach Andy Flower if it is to appoint Gary Kirsten as his successor, according to a report.
Kirsten, who has led both India and South Africa's rise to the top of ICC Test World Rankings and guided the former to World Cup glory in 2011, is believed to be so settled in his well-paid role with IPL outfit Delhi Daredevils that the ECB may have to break the bank to secure his services, The Telegraph claims.
The South African is seen as the ideal person to coach England because of his record in international cricket, although ECB chief executive Giles Clarke has labelled current one-day coach Ashley Giles as a "strong candidate" for the position.
Flower stepped down from the role after his side's Ashes whitewash at the hands of Australia this winter.
