Hampshire director of cricket Giles White tells Sports Mole that James Vince will make the most of his England opportunity.

Hampshire director of cricket Giles White has told Sports Mole that James Vince will prove his worth on the international stage after being called up to the England squad.

Vince has played just one ODI for his country, but will join up with the rest of the England squad for next week's Twenty20 against New Zealand at Old Trafford, and White was full of praise for the 24-year-old batsman.

"He's been a consistent performer over the last few years," he said after Friday's 21-run victory over Middlesex.

"I thought he played outstandingly well last week against Kent. Ninety-nine not out, won us the game chasing and he's done that a number of times and deserves his spot. Hopefully he plays and if he does, he's set up to play well an cement his place in the side."

White also believes that England's new-look approach to one-day internationals would suit the style of Vince, who has often been on the fringes of the squad in recent years.

"I'm sure he will be in the minds of the selectors, but it's a fantastic side at the minute and they're doing really well, so it will be difficult. James is an excellent player and if he keeps performing at county level and an opportunity pops up I'm sure he'll slot in and do well."

England meet New Zealand in the fifth ODI on Saturday with the series level at 2-2.
