Jonathan Trott eager to improve

Jonathan Trott expresses his eagerness to improve his game in order to keep his slot in the England cricket team.

Batsman Jonathan Trott has insisted that he does not take his place in the England team for granted.

The 31-year-old has become a key member of the England side since he made his debut during the 2009 Ashes series against Australia.

However, despite being held in high regard, the South African-born number three batsman is eager to improve to ensure that he does not lose his place.

"I believe I can still get better because if I stand still, I'll be overtaken pretty quickly," he told the London Evening Standard.

"You have to produce the goods. People talk about 'talent' and 'potential' but I am very sceptical about those words. They're always thrown around, but they don't win games. I was always told at school that I had potential but I struggled to work out how to tap into it.

"I had a taste of international cricket in 2007 and I was nowhere near ready so I made damn sure that I'd be well prepared if the chance came again, because you don't get many lives in international cricket. You have to start well and kick on."

Trott made 56 runs for England during a warm-up encounter in India earlier today.
