Andrew Strauss insists that Eoin Morgan will continue to captain England in one-day international and Twenty20 cricket.

Director of England cricket Andrew Strauss has revealed that Eoin Morgan will not be replaced as the one-day international captain.

The batsman took on the role earlier this year just ahead of the Cricket World Cup - a tournament which England exited at the group stages having won just two of their six matches.

However, despite that disappointment, Strauss has insisted that 28-year-old Morgan is the right man to take England forward over the 50 and 20-over formats of the game.

"It's my belief that we need far more separation between the Test and the one-day sides going forward. We've got to do things differently and come up with new ideas," he told Sky Sports News.

"In order to do that, I think we'd benefit from having a specialist one-day captain. Eoin Morgan has just taken up that role at the World Cup and it's very harsh to judge him on what went on in that campaign. He's an excellent candidate to lead England in one-day and Twenty20 cricket.

"He's playing the T20 competitions all around the world, gaining knowledge from different sources and he can apply that to the England cricket team."

Dublin-born Morgan is currently playing in the Indian Premier League for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
