Kevin Pietersen mocks Andrew Strauss's "logic" by joking that he will apply for the England coaching position after his playing return was rejected.

Kevin Pietersen has further criticised newly-appointed ECB director of England cricket Andrew Strauss for failing to give him another chance with the international team.

The 34-year-old batsman, who was sacked in February last year, accused the board of misleading him into thinking that he could earn back a place in the England fold.

Incoming chairman Colin Graves was quoted as saying earlier this year that Pietersen would be considered for selection if he scored runs at county level.

The batsman did just that as he reached a career-best unbeaten 355 this week for Surrey, just hours after Strauss held a meeting to inform Pietersen that he will not return to the squad this summer due to trust issues.

Despite not offering the South African-born cricketer a route back into the team, Strauss did table an advisory role within the one-day international set-up.

Pietersen took to Twitter this morning to mock his ex-captain and joke that he intends to apply for the head coach role, which was left vacant by Peter Moores last week.

The batsman tweeted: "Morning all, after a pretty bad day yesterday I've given it a lot of thought overnight. I'm applying for the coaching job! #StraussLogic."

Pietersen will leave for India on Friday after his IPL team Sunrisers Hyderabad selected the option to recall him for the remainder of the season.
