Joe Root has said that it was crucial that he scored runs in England's warm-up match to improve his chances of Test selection.
The 21-year-old scored 166 runs in the England Performance Programme's win over DY Patil Academy.
The Yorkshire opener told BBC Sport: "It was crucial I took the opportunity and have the weight of runs behind me.
"If I said I wasn't disappointed not to play in the first Test, I'd be lying.
"I'll just be doing everything I can in the nets, working with all the coaches to try to improve my game and take as much from the tour as possible, but also to make sure if required I'm ready to go."
The third Test gets underway in Kolkata on Wednesday.
