Yorkshire's Joe Root has expressed his delight at being called up to the England Test squad for November's tour of India.
Despite only being 21, the right-hander has been tipped to replace Andrew Strauss, who retired from all forms of cricket last month.
Discussing his inclusion, Root admitted that he has realised a childhood dream.
"I'm obviously delighted. It's what you play the game for, you want to represent your country," he told Sky Sports News. "Just to be in the squad's a fantastic feeling and we'll see where we go from there.
"I got a call off Geoff Miller, which obviously again is very nice to receive the news from the chairman of selectors.
"So I was over the moon and thrilled."
Root's playing style has been compared to that of former England skipper Michael Vaughan.
