Joe Root has helped England stage a recovery on day two of the second Test against New Zealand at Headingley.
The hosts finished the morning on 67-3 after Nick Compton (11), Jonathan Trott (28) and captain Alastair Cook (34) were all dismissed.
Root and Ian Bell made steady progress after lunch before Bell (30) was caught behind by Brendan McCullum off the bowling of Kane Williamson.
However, Root continued to plough away at the crease and he was rewarded in front of his own fans when he brought up 50 runs.
The batsman ended the session on 61, while Jonny Bairstow made 13 as England moved onto 178-4.
