Andrew Strauss urges England to adapt

Andrew Strauss believes that the heat in Sri Lanka could play as a disadvantage for England.

England captain Andrew Strauss believes that the hot conditions in Sri Lanka could play a part in the national side's performance throughout the Test series.

England head into the series off the back of their United Arab Emirates tour, in which they clinched the ODI and Twenty20 challenges but failed to claim the Test series against Pakistan.

"The conditions here are very different to Dubai," said Strauss. "There's a lot more humidity and the heat is much more of a factor for us out here.

"Some of us have been here a week now getting used to it and getting used to the challenges. For the guys who have been in England for a while it's the contrast more than anything that gets you.

"Hopefully once the Tests start we'll be very much on top of it. You need to have strategies in place because no matter what sport you're playing, in whatever part of the world, if you overheat then you're in trouble."

The tourists are gearing up for their first warm-up match against the Sri Lanka Board XI on Thursday, in preparation for the opening Test, which begins on March 26.
