Chris Woakes has said that England will take positives from their defeat to a New Zealand XI earlier today.

The tourists lost by three wickets, three days ahead of their first Test against the Black Caps in Dunedin.

The bowler told Sky Sports News: "Obviously, we want to win every game we go into. It's not ideal losing a warm-up game, or a full international, but we feel there are positives to take out of the game.

"Probably not quite enough runs in our second innings was where we lost the game," he said. "If we could have put on another 50 runs, that would have been very handy, as we saw at the end there.

"It's always good to have a competitive game before a Test series. It's going to be a hard three games we play here. We know New Zealand are a very good team, particularly in their own conditions. We've got to be on our game, and no doubt we will be."

England will play three Tests against New Zealand this month.
