England go back to the top of the ODI rankings with a four-wicket victory over South Africa at The Oval.

England have beaten South Africa by four wickets in the third one-day international at The Oval to move back to the top of the world rankings.

The Proteas toppled England from the ODI summit with victory at the Ageas Bowl earlier this week, but fifties from Eoin Morgan and Jonathan Trott helped England chase down 212 and snatch the number one spot back from their opponents.

Jade Dernbach and James Anderson earlier starred with the ball to help England restrict South Africa to a below-par 211.

Recalled Surrey seamer Dernbach took the prize scalp of Hashim Amla for 43, before also dismissing Dean Elgar (42) and Wayne Parnell (13).

After bowling Graeme Smith (18) for his first wicket, Anderson returned to polish up the tail and finish with figures of 4-44.

England recovered from the early loss of Ian Bell (12) to reach 61-1 before captain Alastair Cook (20) and Ravi Bopara (0) fell in quick succession.

However, Trott (71) and Morgan (73) came together to put on 108 before they were dismissed by Parnell and Robin Peterson respectively.

That left Samit Patel (13*) to hit the winning runs as England levelled the five-match series at one game apiece.
