Eoin Morgan's sixth ODI century gives England a genuine chance of levelling the five-match one-day international series with Australia, as the tourists post a total of 300-8.

England have a genuine chance of levelling the five-match one-day international series with Australia thanks to Eoin Morgan's sixth ODI century.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, the tourists, who lost the first ODI by six wickets on Sunday, reached the innings break in Brisbane with a competitive 300-8 on the board.

Morgan was the star of the show for England, smashing six sixes during a 99-ball knock of 106, but the imaginative left-hander survived a major scare en route to his ton.

He was originally given out for just one in the 19th over when he launched Michael Clarke straight to Glenn Maxwell, who took a smart catch in the deep.

However, he refused to walk, complaining that there had been too many fielders outside of the circle. He was correct, the footage was reviewed and the decision overturned.

It took Morgan 70 balls to reach 50, but he then accelerated rapidly and his ton came after just 94 deliveries.

Morgan had arrived at the crease with England 78-3 after losing Alastair Cook (22), Joe Root (2) and Gary Ballance (9). Bell then departed for a useful 68 when he was run out by Clarke.

Ravi Bopara made 24 before falling victim to James Faulkner, who ended with figures of 10-0-73-2.

Jos Buttler smashed 49 off 36 balls, but his dismissal to Nathan Coulter-Nile sparked a late collapse. He, Stokes (0) and Morgan all departed in quick succession as England lost three wickets for just two runs.
