England almost pulled off an inspired victory as poor light earned Pakistan a draw, with the visitors finishing 25 runs short of winning the first Test at Abu Dhabi.

Adil Rashid made up for his first-innings form by getting five wickets, including the final two in two consecutive balls, as England got seven wickets in the final session to bowl Pakistan out for 173.

With a target of 99 to chase, England started well with a changed lineup, but Jos Butler was caught lbw for four with the team at 13-1.

Moeen Ali was caught at the leg-side boundary for 11 and a few minutes later, Stokes was also out for a similar shot for just two runs.

Jonny Bairstow got England into a comfortable position, hitting two boundaries, but was bowled out for 15 as he looked for one big hit too many.

England continued to push for boundaries as the light began to fade, while the Pakistan team tried their best to slow the pace of the game, and the light eventually won out as the first Test ends in a draw.
