England clinch a series victory against Sri Lanka courtesy of a Jason Roy-inspired run chase in the fourth ODI at The Oval.

England have clinched a series win over Sri Lanka courtesy of six-wicket victory in the fourth ODI at The Oval this evening.

A dominant 162 from Jason Roy put England in command as they chased a daunting total of 306 to win a rain-affected match that saw both teams limited to 42 overs.

After the third ODI in Bristol was abandoned because of the rain, Sri Lanka were forced to overcome a two-hour stoppage due to poor weather as they built their lead.

It didn't prevent Kusal Mendis (77), Danushka Gunathilaka (62), Dinesh Chandimal (63) and Angelo Mathews (67*) from all passing the half-century mark, however, as Sri Lanka looked to take the series to the final match.

Mendis and Gunathilaka combined for Sri Lanka's first century partnership of the series before both were dismissed by Adil Rashid.

England were still left with a big total to chase, but Roy led the charge and the early loss of Moeen Ali's wicket did little to slow the opener down.

Roy was ably assisted by Joe Root, who returned to form with 65, while captain Eoin Morgan added 22 before being dismissed by a remarkable Gunathilaka catch.

Roy was finally bowled by Nuwan Pradeep to end his standout innings, but from there Jonny Bairstow (29*) and Jos Buttler (17*) saw England past the finish line with more than an over to spare.

It was England's second-highest ODI chase of all time, and saw them take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series.
