Alastair Cook is 237 not out as England reach 468-5, 55 runs behind Pakistan, at tea on day four of the first Test in Abu Dhabi.

Alastair Cook became only the second Test cricketer in history to bat for 12 or more hours twice in his career as England edged closer to Pakistan's first-innings total at tea on day four of the first Test in Abu Dhabi.

After reaching his double-hundred in the opening session, England captain Cook remains unbeaten in the middle on 237, with the tourists 55 runs behind and heading for a draw in the first of three Tests in the United Arab Emirates.

England only added 68 runs in the second session of the day as Pakistan had some more luck with the ball, removing Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow.

Root, who looked on course for a century, fell for 85 when he wafted at a wide Rahat Ali delivery and edged through to Sarfraz Ahmed, while Bairstow added just eight to the scoreboard before Wahab Riaz trapped him lbw.

Riaz was having some reverse-swing joy with the old ball and was close to removing Ben Stokes on several occasions before the Durham man steadied himself, reaching 16 not out.
