England bowled out Pakistan during the evening session for 234 runs to put them in the driving seat at the end of day one of the third Test in Sharjah.

However, their domination and the fact that openers Alastair Cook and Moeen Ali saw out the two overs that remained without scare, was slightly overshadowed by the suspected shoulder dislocation that all-rounder Ben Stokes suffered while he attempted to catch a Misbah-ul-Huq shot.

It seemed for a long while that the combination of captain Ul-Haq and Sarfraz Ahmed would frustrate the visiting bowling attack until the close of play, but their 80-run sixth-wicket partnership was eventually ended when the latter of the two sent Ali's delivery straight to Joe Root on the boundary.

He was soon joined back in the dressing room by Wahab Riaz, who saw his middle stump removed by spinner Samit Patel for a duck.

It was that wicket that prompted the Pakistan innings to unravel, as Stuart Broad removed Yasir Shah (7), before James Anderson took his wicket haul for the innings to 4-17 as he dismissed the last two batsmen.

First Ul-Huq fenced a bouncer through to Root in the slips for 71 and then Rahat Ali (4) played a similar shot, which on this occasion was snared by his namesake Moeen.

Cook did not trouble the score in the 12 balls that he and Ali had to negotiate through, but his partner did hit a four off the bowling of Shah to leave England 230 runs adrift going into the second day.
