Pakistan trail England by 532 runs at the end of play on day two of the second Test at Old Trafford.

England have reduced Pakistan to 57-4 to leave themselves in a strong position after the second day of the second Test at Old Trafford.

Chris Woakes took three wickets and Joe Root also impressed by notching up 254 runs off 406 balls earlier in the day.

Having started the first session on 314-4, Root's unbeaten double century helped England to 589-8 at tea as he shared a second-wicket stand of 185 with skipper Alastair Cook (105).

Woakes took charge in a fifth-wicket stand with Root to notch 103, only ending when he chipped a return catch straight back to Yasir Shah.

England lost just one wicket after lunch - Ben Stokes given out following a protracted review that showed him being caught behind down the legside off Wahab Riaz on 34.

With the hosts declaring on 589 runs, Pakistan crumbled as they lost a number of key men for just 57 runs of their own - top-order trio Mohammad Hafeez, Azhar Ali and Rahat Ali all being removed before the end of play.

Stokes also removed Younus Khan to leave the tourists trailing by 532 heading into day three.
