England are set a score of 306 to beat Australia in the first ODI at the Ageas Bowl.

Australia have set England a score of 306 to win the first one-day international between the sides at the Ageas Bowl.

The tourists won the toss and opted to bat before going on to reach 305-6 off 50 overs.

Joe Burns (44) and David Warner (59) got Australia off to a positive start with the bat, but both openers were dismissed by Adil Rashid midway through the innings.

Steven Smith and George Bailey continued to keep the scoreboard ticking over for the Aussies, though they were also sent back to the pavilion by the in-form Rashid for scores of 44 and 23 respectively.

Australia's middle order showed few signs of taking the fight to England as Glen Maxwell was caught by Jos Buttler off a Mark Wood delivery for 15 before Shane Watson was run out for six.

With England looking to have the visitors by the throat, Matthew Wade and Mitchell Marsh formed a valuable partnership at the crease for Australia.

Wade finished the innings with a swashbuckling knock of 71 not out, while Marsh contributed an unbeaten 40 to put Australia past the 300-run mark.
