Pakistan remove Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler in the morning session to leave England needing 304 runs to save the second Test in Dubai.

England's hopes of salvaging the second Test in Dubai are diminishing after Pakistan removed Joe Root, Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler during the morning session on day five.

Root gave his side a chance of drawing the contest on day four, but he is now back in the pavilion alongside Bairstow and Buttler, with England needing 304 runs.

Trevor Bayliss's side had seven wickets in hand when they began the day, but their star man Root was the first to fall this morning.

Zulfiqar Babar found the breakthrough when Root knocked to Younis Khan, who took a clean catch at slip, resulting in the batsman leaving the crease having hit 71 off 171 balls.

Bairstow formed a new partnership with Ben Stokes, but it did not last long as the former was undone by a googly from Yasir Shah, whose 67 wickets is the most by any spinner in his first 11 Tests.

Shah struck again nine overs later with a leg-spin delivery, which resulted in Buttler (7) edging to Khan at slip.

Stokes (9 not out) and Adil Rashid (8 not out) will return to the crease for the afternoon session with England on 187-6.
