Michael Carberry and Owais Shah each score half-centuries to help Hampshire on their way to a 19-run victory over Middlesex Panthers at the Ageas Bowl.

Hampshire have comfortably defeated Middlesex Panthers by 19 runs at the Ageas Bowl to move up to second place in the T20 Southern Division.

Having won the toss, the hosts opted to bat first but they struggled to truly get into their rhythm as James Vince racked up just nine runs before being bowled out by James Franklin.

Owais Shah and Sean Ervine in particular formed a strong partnership, however, adding 100 between them to frustrate the Middlesex bowlers.

They remained unscathed, but James Adams (3) and Michael Carberry (57) were both sent packing as the visitors looked to chase down 172-3 from their 20 overs.

Things did not start great when Nick Compton and Dawid Malan both went for a combined 45, while Joe Burns and Eoin Morgan tried their best to stabilise things, with the former adding 18 runs from 23 balls.

The impressive bowling of Yasir Arafat - who ended on 2-21 - proved the downfall for Burns and Malan, while captain Morgan had earlier gone for 28 as the Panthers struggled to truly trouble the target set by Hampshire.

Franklin and John Simpson were last to fall, joint-top scoring with 31 runs apiece for their side, but it was not enough to stop the home side claiming a simple win.
