Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh will miss the rest of the Test series against England through injury.
Both players were affected during the second Test defeat at Trent Bridge, with Harbhajan tearing a lower abdominal muscle and Yuvraj fracturing his left index-finger when facing the bowling of Tim Bresnan.
The BCCI said: "While Yuvraj Singh's injury may take around four weeks to recover, Harbhajan Singh is likely to recover in three weeks' time."
Virat Kohli and Pragyan Ojha have been selected as replacements and will join the squad at the earliest opportunity before the start of the third Test at Edgbaston next Wednesday.
The visitors, who have endured two heavy defeats in the previous Tests, will lose their world number one status should they lose the next encounter in Birmingham.
