India build big lead against England in fifth Test

:Headline: India build big lead against England in fifth Test:
India open up a lead of 255 runs over England after another dominant showing on the second day of the fifth Test in Dharamsala.

India have opened up a 255-run advantage over England at stumps on day two of the fifth Test in Dharamsala, reaching 473-8.

After yet another batting collapse on the opening day, England were always going to be up against it to keep their hosts in check on Friday.

Resuming on 135-1, India wasted little time in advancing past England's total of 218 while still having nine wickets intact.

Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both posted brilliantly-constructed centuries, compiling a second-wicket partnership of 171 before a rare bowling appearance from Ben Stokes led to Sharma being bowled for 103.

When Gill followed for 110 soon afterwards, James Anderson moving ever closer to his 700th Test wicket, England had their tails up, but a 97-run fourth-wicket partnership between Devdutt Padikkal and Sarfaraz Khan took the wind out of their sails.

Padikkal and Khan would make 65 and 56 respectively before Shoaib Bashir and Tom Hartley to bring some respectability about England's showing with the ball.

Bashir put in the hard yards to take 4-170 from another mammoth effort of 44 overs, while Hartley has figures of 2-126 from 39 overs.

Kuldeep Yadav (27*) and Jasprit Bumrah (19*) prolonged the misery for England during the stages of the day, putting on 45 across 18 overs, and they will likely come out firing on Saturday morning before England attempt to avoid an innings defeat. body check tags ::
