England are already facing a fight to remain competitive in the first Test against India after being bowled out for 246 on day one.

Ben Stokes won what could eventually prove to be a pivotal toss on a turning wicket and naturally opted to bat first in a bid to post a commanding total.

However, India took just over two sessions in Hyderabad to dismiss the tourists, before Yashasvi Jaiswal strengthened his reputation as one of India's most promising international cricketers with 76 from 70 balls at the top of the order.

Although England now lead by just 127 runs, it could have been very different had they built on Zak Crawley (20) and Ben Duckett (35) putting on 55 runs for the first wicket.

That quickly turned into 60-3 before Joe Root (29) and Jonny Bairstow (37) restored a certain level of calm before they also departed with just 35.3 overs gone.

England were reliant on Stokes adding another trademark knock to his collection and the skipper ultimately added 70 from 88 deliveries and was the last man out.

Before that dismissal, Rehan Ahmed (13), Tom Hartley (23) and Mark Wood (11) all made valuable contributions, but India were always threatening with the ball.

Ravichandran Ashwin (3-68) and Ravindra Jadeja (3-88) impressed, as did Jasprit Bumrah (2-28) and Axar Patel (2-33) before it was left to Jaiswal to take England's bowling attack apart.

Nine fours and three maximums came from his swashbuckling knock, remaining unbeaten at the close of play, with Shubman Gill (14*) playing the patient support role.

India reached 119-1 from just 23 overs, Jack Leach taking the wicket of Rohit Sharma (24), with Hartley 0-63 from nine overs on debut and England having already lost all three of their reviews.
