England were reliant on Stokes adding another trademark knock to his collection and the skipper ultimately added 70 from 88 deliveries and was the last man out.
Before that dismissal, Rehan Ahmed (13), Tom Hartley (23) and Mark Wood (11) all made valuable contributions, but India were always threatening with the ball.
Ravichandran Ashwin (3-68) and Ravindra Jadeja (3-88) impressed, as did Jasprit Bumrah (2-28) and Axar Patel (2-33) before it was left to Jaiswal to take England's bowling attack apart.
Nine fours and three maximums came from his swashbuckling knock, remaining unbeaten at the close of play, with Shubman Gill (14*) playing the patient support role.
India reached 119-1 from just 23 overs, Jack Leach taking the wicket of Rohit Sharma (24), with Hartley 0-63 from nine overs on debut and England having already lost all three of their reviews. body check tags ::
