Murali Vijay and Cheteshwar Pujara held firm in the afternoon session of the second Test against Australia to put India in control in Chennai.
In the morning session the tourists' disciplined bowling had restricted the hosts to just 54-1, with Virender Sehwag falling for six.
The afternoon was more successful for India as Vijay and Pujara loosened up and added 106 runs in the session to move within 77 runs of the Aussies' first-innings total.
Both men go into the final session on 73 runs. They have both hit 10 fours but Pujara just edges the boundary count having also hit a six.
India lead the four-match series 1-0.
