India have beaten South Africa by 26 runs in the opening game of the ICC Champions Trophy in Cardiff.
South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl but they found it tough as Shikhar Dhawan and Rohit Sharma shared an opening partnership of 127, before Sharma was caught out for 65.
Dhawan went on to score his century, hitting 114 off 94 balls, including 12 fours and one six before he was caught out by Aaron Phangiso off the bowling of JP Duminy.
India's run rate slowed down but they were able to take the score past 300, with MS Dhoni hitting 27 off 26 balls and Ravindra Jadeja scored quickly in the final few overs, managing 47 off 29 deliveries.
South Africa needed 332 to win but India made an early breakthrough, dismissing openers Colin Ingram and Hashim Amla inside the first four overs.
Robin Peterson and AB de Villiers began to build a recovery, putting on a 133-run partnership before Peterson was run out after some quick fielding by Ravinda Jadeja.
India regained the initiative with the quick dismissals of Duminy, De Villiers and David Miller to leave the Proteas on 188-6.
Ryan McLaren put up a fight, scoring 59 off 51 balls to help his side pass 300, but India secured victory in the final over when Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled out Morne Morkel.
