Australia finish their innings against Ireland on 222-6 after rain limits them to just 40.2 overs in the one-day international in Belfast.

Australia have finished an abridged innings on 222-6 after rain delays limited them to just 40.2 overs in their one-day international with Ireland in Belfast.

After showers resulted in the game being reduced to 47 overs per side, Australia made a dominant start to their first match following their victory in the summer's final Ashes Test.

Openers Joe Burns and David Warner put on 139 for the first wicket before Burns, making his ODI debut, mistimed an attempted pull over square leg and instead edged to Niall O'Brien for 69 as Craig Young finally broke through for Ireland.

Australia lost three further wickets for five runs as Ireland pegged back Darren Lehmann's side, with Warner being dismissed in similar fashion to Burns for 84 before George Bailey (1) and Glenn Maxwell (2) were also removed.

Following a 20-minute rain shower, Stuart Thompson got his first wicket of the match after the restart in play with the prize capture of Aussie skipper Steve Smith who was caught behind by O'Brien for 21.

Tim Murtagh caught Mitchell Marsh off the bowling of John Mooney to put Australia six down before further rain brought the adjusted Australian innings to a halt at 222-6 off 40.2 overs.
