Brendon McCullum hits a record-breaking 123 as New Zealand post 191 in their World Twenty20 opener against Bangladesh in Pallekele.

Brendon McCullum recorded the highest score in international Twenty20 history as New Zealand posted an excellent total of 191 in their World Cup group stage match in Pallekele.

The wicketkeeper-batsman smashed seven sixes on his way to a mammoth 123 off just 58 balls, before being dismissed by Abdul Razzak in the last over.

James Franklin also contributed 35 as part of a 94-run partnership with McCullum following the early loss of Martin Guptill - Razzak again the wicket taker.

McCullum brought up his century in the 19th over before surpassing Richard Levi's previous top score of 117 with three maximums in the final stages.

Bangladesh's chase is scheduled to begin at around 12.50pm.
