Tim Southee: 'New Zealand must adapt quickly'

Tim Southee admits that the pressure is on New Zealand to adapt to Test cricket again ahead of the series with England.

Tim Southee has admitted that the challenge for New Zealand will be to adapt as quickly as possible ahead of the first Test against England at Lord's.

The Black Caps won their two warm-up matches against Somerset and Worcestershire respectively, but Southee believes that the tourists still need to be ready for a different test as they prepare for their first match in the longest format since the first week of 2015.

"We've played some great Test cricket in the last couple of years, although it's been a while since we played and they are coming off the back of a series - hopefully the guys can adapt quickly, but the ones who have been here have shown form," the seamer told ESPN.

"It's the way cricket is played, you have to adapt - you go from one-dayers to T20s and then to Tests so it's no different to what we face back home it's just that we've come from different parts of the world. The hardest thing will be getting used to the cold weather."

The first Test gets underway on Thursday morning before the two sides meet in the second and final match at Headingley next week.
