India earn a lead of over 200 runs before striking with the ball late in the second day to take full control of the second Test with New Zealand.

Ajinkya Rahane struck his maiden Test century on day two of the second Test as India once again dominated New Zealand in Wellington.

The tourists resumed after tea on 301-6, with Rahane and captain MS Dhoni continuing to frustrate the Kiwi bowlers with an impressive partnership.

Dhoni reached his half-century before departing for 68 when Trent Boult had the Indian skipper caught behind by BJ Watling.

Ravindra Jadeja (26) and Zaheer Khan (22) made vital contributions further down the order to support Rahane, who was eventually dismissed for 118 from 158 balls.

India were all out for 438, which handed them a first-innings lead of 246 runs at the Basin Reserve.

New Zealand suffered a further blow before the close of play when Khan struck with the new ball to dismiss Peter Fulton for just one run.

The Black Caps reached stumps on 24-1, with Hamish Rutherford (18*) and Kane Williamson (4*) the men left at the crease facing a deficit of 222 runs.
