India lose three wickets early in their first innings to trail New Zealand by 430 runs at tea on day two of the first Test.

India are facing a battle to avoid the follow-on in the first Test at Eden Park after New Zealand reduced the tourists to 45-3 at tea on day two.

New Zealand were dominant again in the first session thanks to Brendon McCullum, who reached his double century in the final over before the lunch.

The Kiwis captain continued to attack the Indian bowlers after the break as he looked to add some extra runs to take his side past 500.

McCullum was the final batsman to be dismissed Ravindra Jadeja took a stunning catch on the boundary to hand Ishant Sharma (6-134) his sixth wicket and bring the innings to an end in the process.

India made a disappointing start to their reply as Trent Boult struck twice in the first over to have Shikhar Dhawan (0) caught by Kane Williamson at gully before Cheteshwar Pujara (1) became the next batsman to depart when he delivered an edge through to BJ Watling.

Tim Southee backed up his opening bowling partner impressively and he was rewarded with the wicket of Virat Kohli, who managed to get a thumb on a sharp bouncer before seeing himself caught by Peter Fulton in the slips as the tourists fell to 10-3.

Murali Vijay (22*) and Rohit Sharma (16*) were able to make it to the tea break but India face a battle as they look to chip away at a deficit of 458 runs in the final session.
