England have suffered yet another one-sided defeat to New Zealand, this time in the first one-day international in Cardiff.

Since winning the first two T20 games between the teams, England have been thoroughly outplayed by the Black Caps, who earned a share of the spoils in the short format.

They maintained their momentum on Friday, eventually prevailing by eight wickets despite England setting them a target of 292 after losing the toss.

To England's credit, New Zealand were made to fight in the field, the home side going from 80-0 to 101-3 before making 291-6 from their 50 overs.

Dawid Malan (54), Ben Stokes (52), Jos Buttler (72) and Liam Livingstone (52) all scored half-centuries, with the 3-48 from spinner Rachin Ravindra keeping England within reach.

With the bat, though, New Zealand always looked in control, despite seeing Will Young (29) and Henry Nicholls (26) dismissed by 20.3 overs.

From there, Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell each pummelled England, the latter taking the extra plaudits for a sensational 118 from 91 balls that included seven sixes.

Conway remained at the crease for the entirety of the innings, though, with 111 coming from 121 deliveries, and New Zealand emerged victorious with 26 balls to spare.
