Surrey captain Rory Hamilton-Brown has revealed that he is taking a break from cricket with immediate effect.
The 24-year-old has struggled to come to terms with the death of his best friend and teammate Tom Maynard, who was struck by a London Underground District Line train last month.
Having been granted compassionate leave by Surrey, Hamilton-Brown praised his county for the understanding that they have shown him.
"I have decided to take a break from cricket," he said. "I am grateful to the club for their support and understanding of my decision and I look forward to returning to the game where I will hope to contribute and take forward my form of recent seasons."
Hamilton-Brown was handed the Surrey captaincy in 2009.
