Somerset wicketkeeper Craig Kieswetter was forced to retire from a Championship match on the first day after suffering facial injuries while batting.
The 26-year-old will play no further part in the match against Northamptonshire after being struck by a ball that came through his helmet visor, leaving him with a broken nose and a fractured cheekbone.
Kieswetter shared a picture of his injuries on Twitter:
Meanwhile, Somerset's director of cricket, Dave Nosworthy, said: "Craig is in very safe and capable hands at this time. These freak cricketing accidents happen from time to time and I am confident with the right care that he will come through this setback."
Kieswetter has played in 46 one-day international and 25 Twenty20 matches for England.
